Wax:On News | A Mike Jones Merry Christmas |
Merry Christmas from Mike Jones
Merry Christmas one and all – I hope you have enjoyed 2011’s year of music as much as I have and are looking forward to more in 2012!
I have put together a very special end of year mix especially for Wax:On as a big thanks to you all. It’s a bit of a winter warmer and i've selected some of my favourite tracks new and old with a particular aesthetic.
There's an emphasis on percussion, flow and progression of the tracks and styles i've put together, so bang some cans on and get sweaty! Merry Christmas!

2011 highlights from a Mike Jones perspective
Number one EP of 2011
"Martyn and Mike Slott - All Nights"
This was released right at the start of 2011 and I've played it out loads since, as it never fails to get people moving. I'm a huge fan of everything Martyn has done even since his D&B days. I think that this EP highlights the shift in tempos and rhythms that a lot of the "Bass/Dubstep" producers have made through 2011, slowing things down and moving back towards a more 4x4 structure whilst still keeping their style and making new, exciting music.
Mike’s top albums of 2011
There have been so many good albums this year from artists such as: Instrumental, Hyetal, Morphosis, Nebraska, Roman Flugel and Virgo Four Re-Issues. However two that really stand out are:
The Black Dog - Lieber Dogma

A great album by Sheffield Techno wizards. Each track on the album blends into the next effortlessly and works together perfectly. It sounds great as an album to listen to at home as well as in a club environment. I've included one of the tracks from this album in my Wax:On end of 2011 Mix.
Gil Scott Heron & Jamie xx - We're New Here

Bit of an obvious choice, this album pretty much confirmed that the hype was to be well and truly believed. It's got absolutely everything you need here, Gil Scott Heron sounds completely other worldly too. It's one of those albums that was completely out of the blue and so brilliant, I think Jamie has made an instant classic with this one.
