Q: You are signed to Erol Alkanʼs Phantasy Sound label, how did this come about?
A: I had this track called "Yeah, Techno!" which desperately needed a place to live, besides in my live sets and 2ManyDJsʼ Sets. Dave and Steph introduced me to Erol and he was interested in taking it on.
Q: Describe your sound?
A: Imagine a bunch of screaming analog synths and drum boxes with their volume set to 11, connected to a sequencer and controlled by a bloke who likes his coffee and suffers of compulsive knob twisting and button pressing.
Q: So youʼve been gigging at Fabric London, Germany, Ireland. What future gigs have you got coming up and which are you most looking forward to?
A: My gig calendar is filling up rapidly. A lot of UK touring, Portugal, France, and even a bit of Belgium. The rest of the world will surely follow. Iʼm looking forward to all of them actually!
Q: What productions and collaborations have you got in store for 2011?
A: At the moment Iʼm finally working on my own productions again. Iʼve been just remixing and doing gigs until now this year. And there are a couple of other projects in the pipeline which I canʼt reveal just yet.
Q: Who would you love to work with in the future on a record?
A: Even though I have a couple of people in mind, it doesnʼt mean the studio relationship would work. It can be difficult to collaborate with people because everybody works differently, itʼs like any other relationship. What I can say is that I would like to work on music with the people I became friends with in the last few years: the Soulwax boys, Erol, Iggor and Laima from Mixhell, Alex (Boys Noize) and Shinichi Osawa. Their musical taste comes very close to mine and they are all wonderful people to hang out with, so I can imagine it would work in a studio as well.
Q: When you are not busy with your music what are you most likely to be doing?
A: You can probably find me having a coffee at a good coffee bar in Antwerp. I like swimming, inventing things I will probably never make, and thinking about what I want to do when I grow up. And when I really feel like I have a lot of time on my hands I like cooking stews.
Q: What are your desert island all time top five tracks and why?
A:....Jim Hall & Ron Carter - Alone Together - the one and only track that helps me relax in any situation
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker - for me this is the ultimate electronic song ever made, timeless!
The B-52's - Planet Claire - I grew up with the album that had this song. I must have played it a million times and I still enjoy it every time.
Can - Vitamin C - discovered this while touring with Soulwax in 2008 so I think it will keep bringing up good memories forever.
Laurie Anderson - O Superman - "Big Science" covers about every emotion you can have, I can imagine listening to this on the beach of a deserted island all the time.
Q: If you had to choose a film title for the story of your life to date, what would it be?
A: The World of Paul
Q: Have you got any hidden talents?
A: I make a pretty nice cup of coffee, and I also make good cocktails. The rest are truly hidden talents so I canʼt tell you.
Q: What would you like to be doing in five years time?
A: Probably what I am doing now, but on the ʻadvanced gameplayʼ setting.
