Wax:On News | Wax:On Does Evolution Festival |
On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th June Evolution Music Festival returns with an expected crowd of 60,000 attending over the weekend and culminating in the outdoor shows at Spiller's Wharf on the Gateshead quayside. Not only will it be the greatest Northern Festival this year but we will also be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend!
Wax:On will be returning to Evolution for yet another year to host our own stage with the biggest and best roster of artists that we have brought to the festival to date. Carefully selected from the cream of the crop, our line up is guaranteed to deliver a proper royal party.
Headlining our stage is Mercury Prize nominee SBTRKT. From a collection of original music and collaborations to a slew of talked about remixes, SBTRKT’s rise to notoriety has been ever-so-slightly meteoric. He really carved out his own path into an ever-evolving dance scene with his debut album, blurring the lines between garage, electro, house, 2-step, new wave and indie.
Also on the bill is London’s most talked about female in the scene, Maya Jane Coles'. From releasing catchy house tunes on French label Real Tone to helming the BBC Essential Mix and remixing MK for Defected less than a year later, Maya has appeared on most peoples radars within the past year. The widespread attraction to her own tracks is obvious: sprightly melodies, springy basslines, a knack for catchy vocal hooks (often her own), there's a sensual playfulness that comes across just as well in her DJing.
Regarded as one of the finest DJ’s within the scene Jackmaster is guaranteed to get the Queens celebrations in full swing in just as he said in an interview for Fabrics blog “it’s always been about the party for me and I think that’s really come through in the mix.” Also being figurehead of the seminal UK label Numbers, he only cements his position as a true tastemaker knowing exactly what’s needed on the dancefloor.
Another jewel in our Evolution crown is Bristol boy Eats Everything. In a matter of months he has defined a whole new genre of forward-thinking underground house music that draws elements from classic house, UK bass music, Detroit techno, jungle and early rave, paying homage to everything from Randy Crawford to Ray Charles and Murk to MK.
Also billed to deliver a special LIVE performance of his electro pop, euro house, and two-step beats is the increasingly popular Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. His debut album Trouble is set to be released 11 June 2012. The album includes five pre-released singles including "Household Goods" and "You Need Me On My Own".
Our residents People Get Real and Mike Jones will open the full days proceeding with their classic warm up approach.
Other artists that will be performing over the course of the weekend are: Dizzee Rascal, Miles Kane, Devlin, Deadmau5, Rizzle Kicks, Dj Fresh, Jack Beats, Shy FX, Friction, Dot Rotten, Toddla T and more!
