WOM004 - Eskimo Twins - Judas

With remixes by Matt Walsh, Justin Robertson, The Sonic Emporium, Ado, Riptide this release is receiving support from The Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada, Cassius, Rub n Tug, Steve Aoki, Ivan Smagghe and many more. The Judas EP from Wax:On Music sets out Eskimo Twins musical manifesto. What you get from the duo is a sophisticated musicality reinforced with their love for acid, disco, electro, and pop; as anybody who has witnessed their DJ sets will tell you.

Taking influence from the likes of DJ Pierre, Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk, this 2-track electro meets techno meets disco cut; their second for Wax:On Music, follows the Eskimo Twins policy to the letter.

Lead track ‘Judas’ waits a good four minutes before betraying it’s deep, chugging techno origins with a sophisticated turn-around, transforming events with throbs of nu-wave electro disco. It displays a fleeting glimpse of brightness before you find yourself back in murkier depths of analogue techno, with only the squelches and zaps holding a torch to guide you. With its bobbing 808 toms, human claps and disco-arp basslines, ‘Judas’ delivers an unfolding and irresistible groove.

‘Droid’ on the flip, is tribal metal drums meets guttural, noisy synths overdriven through a wall of guitar amps. This is Sepultura and Pantera filtered through the Twin’s synthesizer laboratory and primed for warehouse raving. Stripped back beats, angry, piercing top lines and acid tweaks give way to raucous drops and wobbly basslines, showing the Twins love of noise.

Press Release

On the EP both ‘Judas' and ‘Droid' get a solid remix treatment. There's Justin Robertson doing what he does well with an early house influenced re-rub of ‘Judas' sitting next to the Turbo resident, Matt Walsh's 4am techno version. Meanwhile, The Sonic Emporium takes on the reprise, making light, applying gentle but serious breaks, spaced-out pads and soft synths. On ‘Droid', self-confessed noise-maker, Ado makes a welcome contribution with a peaks n' tweaks electro-house banger. Leaving it to RipTidE to further toughen things up with his hard-electro grind as an alternative.

Eskimo Twins music can count heavy hitters like Alex Gropher, Streetlife DJs plus Radios 1’s Zane Lowe, and Kissy Sellout amongst their supporters. Versatile and uncompromised DJ sets have seen them rewarded with a 2010 residency at Ibiza’s premiere ‘rock meets rave’ club-night, ‘Reclaim the Dancefloor’ alongside a number of summer festival appearances.
